Saiku 3.3 Released

Okay, so this was supposed to be 3.2.5.something, but so much has been added we figured it merited a proper release number, so here it is.

What's new you ask?

  • Support for MongoDB NumberLong() types, which means you can use really big numbers.
  • Support for calculated dimension members from within a schema. Previously you'd have to use a MDX query to get access to dimension calculated members, but they now appear within the All Level selection box when you are manipulating a query.
  • Support for Hangar Dimensions(Mondrian 4 dimensions made up entirely from calculated members)
  • Dashboard layout defaults. Instead of designing a layout from scratch you can now use one of our existing templates to create your cool Saiku dashboard.
  • Custom dashboard widgets. Instead of using a default table or chart, developers can now use custom data visualisation components to render dashboards from within Saiku.

If you are a developer interested in adding some easy to develop dashboards to your product, or would like to make reports easier to understand in your business, then the custom code widget could be exactly what you need. You can take the raw data from Saiku and pump it through your own custom Javascript code and render the result. So for example you might want to render a D3 visualization or use a different charting library, or just change the way an existing table or chart is rendered. You can now do this from the dashboard designer. This is certainly a developer tool, think of it as JSFiddle for Dashboards, but its great and adds a good degree of flexibility to our dashboards which retain their ease of use but don't inhibit the developer. You can find out more about the custom dashboard widget on the Wiki

So, get downloading and let us know what you think!
